THIS MONTH’S HIGHLIGHT

MDCT of Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts and Stents:
Effective noninvasive coronary artery imaging

Dear readers,

Myocardial revascularization is an established treatment for coronary artery disease and ischemic heart disease, and it is most commonly done using one of two procedures: coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with stenting. Due to the delicate nature of the coronary arteries, noninvasive diagnostic imaging is essential in evaluating the outcome of these interventions.

The most reliable imaging modality for these purposes is coronary CT angiography, which has high diagnostic accuracy and provides optimal coronary visualization. This is the topic of Professor Pontana’s Focus on, proposed in this newsletter. Additionally, the role of iterative reconstruction in generating high-quality CT angiographs from low-radiation scans is addressed in the Technological Corner.

This month’s e-book chapter illustrates the use of coronary CT angiography in the evaluation of CABG, and the selected journal literature presents the most recent research in the field of graft and stent evaluation. Finally, two new clinical cases allow you to practically verify the efficacy of coronary CT angiography in assessing the outcomes of these two procedures.

Suggestions for topics to be covered in future issues of this newsletter are welcome as usual. Please send your ideas to us at editorial@public.pixelentropy.eu/mdct-new.

Diagnostic accuracy in coronary imaging: the role of iterative reconstruction
J. Pagniez, F. Pontana

Over the past few years, with the use of iterative reconstruction, low-dose cardiac computed tomography has become a routine procedure with the same image quality or even better diagnostic accuracy.
