Dear readers,
In the cancer setting, effective therapeutic decision-making and patient management depend on an accurate staging of the disease. A widely used staging system, namely the TNM Classification of Malignant Tumours, was revised in 2017 with publication of its 8thedition. In the TNM staging of lung cancer, CT findings play a predominant role.
It is essential for radiologists to know the updated TNM descriptors in order to stage lung cancer correctly. For this purpose, Dr. Anzidei’s Focus on, presented here, illustrates the changes and improvements made to the 8th TNM classification of lung cancer. The revised staging system and its implications are analyzed in the selected e-book chapter, and the role of CT in the clinical staging of lung cancer using the 8thTNM edition is emphasized in one of the two proposed clinical cases.
Finally, the selected literature articles discuss the use of CT in lung cancer screening and in the detection and characterization of pulmonary lesions and lymph nodes.
