Dear public.pixelentropy.eu/mdct-new users,
MDCT is considered the most efficacious and reliable technique for evaluating abdominal diseases characterized by nonspecific clinical signs and difficult radiological diagnosis.
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms that arise in the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal tract, most often in the stomach. The new Focus on, by Doctor Ciolina and Professor Laghi, reviews the value of contrast-enhanced MDCT in the detection and characterization of GISTs, and in the assessment of these patients’ prognosis and response to therapy. The accompanying clinical cases illustrate other abdominal diseases of difficult radiological diagnosis.
The use of iodinated contrast medium for MDCT of the gastrointestinal tract in particular conditions needs special attention: the review and the e-lecture proposed in this Newsletter examine some optimization strategies related to the administration of contrast medium and CT imaging.
