Dear MDCT.net users,

The implementation and progressive improvement in MDCT have made impressive advances in the study of each human body area, and the lower extremity vasculature is not excluded. This advanced technology now allows one to visualize the peripheral arteries noninvasively and to obtain distinct details never imaged in the past. The high spatial resolution and the very low associated risk make MDCT angiography an optimal imaging modality for assessing the peripheral arterial tree and diagnosing vascular diseases. These are the topics addressed by the two main contributions presented in this month’s newsletter: the Focus on by Dr. Anzidei reviews lower limb vasculature and abnormalities of this arterial district and discusses the CT angiography technique, whereas Prof. Paul’s Focus on addresses CT angiography principles and procedures, including patient preparation, contrast medium administration, and image acquisition and reconstruction. A comprehensive illustration of peripheral arterial anatomy is presented in the selected e-book; recently published papers presented here examine particular applications of this technique; and, finally, some clinical cases show practical examples of the use of CT angiography for the diagnosis of lower limb pathologies.

We welcome suggestions for new topics to be covered in future issues: please contact us at
