Dear readers,
“Vascular malformations” is an all-inclusive term used to describe a variety of lesions involving arterial, venous and lymphatic vessels. Their different sites of occurrence, their heterogeneous clinical features, and the diverse classification systems make the identification of these pathological entities challenging and complex, leading to delayed management.
CT angiography is an efficacious noninvasive imaging technique for characterizing vascular malformations and for guiding surgical interventions. Its diagnostic role is specifically addressed by Dr. Anzidei’s Focus on and Analysis & Opinion, proposed in this newsletter. These contributions also offer a comprehensive depiction of these conditions and related classification systems. This month’s e-book chapter illustrates the use of MDCT, with and without contrast medium, in the evaluation of vascular malformations, while the selected journal literature presents several studies that used MDCT to diagnose particular forms of these lesions. Finally, two new clinical cases allow you to experience the utility of CT in assessing two forms of vascular anomalies.
