THIS MONTH’S HIGHLIGHT

Dual-Energy CT of the Liver: Improved Accuracy
and Reduced Radiation Dose

Dear readers,

The recently introduced dual-energy CT technology has been widely demonstrated to rapidly acquire images and to eliminate the need for multiphasic imaging protocols, thereby improving accuracy and reducing patients’ radiation exposure. In abdominal imaging, dual-energy CT improves the detection and characterization of abdominal lesions.

The physical principles underlying dual-energy CT for the study of the liver are presented this month in the Focus on by Dr. Anzidei, Dr. Caruso and Prof. Laghi, while the development of this technique and its use in the diagnosis of different abdominal conditions are described in the selected literature and e-book. Finally, the two clinical cases proposed here illustrate the application of dual-energy CT in the identification of very small liver lesions that are usually difficult to recognize with conventional CT technology.

We remind you that suggestions for new topics to be covered in future issues are always welcome. Please contact us at editorial@public.pixelentropy.eu/mdct-new.
