Novel perfusion CT techniques in neurovascular imaging
by B. Ertl-Wagner, Munich, Germany

Extract

Perfusion CT has become standard practice in most comprehensive stroke CT protocols [ 1 ]. The most commonly used MDCT protocol for comprehensive stroke imaging includes the following steps:

  1. Non-enhanced CT to rule out hemorrhage and to look for early signs of ischemia,
  2. Perfusion CT to search for hypoperfused tissue, and
  3. CT angiography to evaluate the site of thrombembolic occlusion and to assess the supra-aortic vessels, e.g. to rule out a relevant carotid artery stenosis [ 2 ].
