Patient preparation
Planning the Scan
- Select a standard scanning protocol that is appropriate for the scanner and clinical indication
- Adapt scanning protocol to individual patient requirements (see section " CM Administration" and " Scan Delay" for patient and contrast-injection variables that may affect image quality)
- Position the patient
- Provide radiation protection as appropriate (apron or other shields for the breasts and gonads)
- Place the patient in a comfortable supine, prone, or lateral decubitus position, as required
- Place padding beneath the head, knees, or lower legs
- Repeat GI contrast media administration, if needed
- Administer antispasmodic agents (Buscopan or glucagon), if needed
- Document imaging parameters to determine patient’s radiation exposure (kVp, mA, scan mode, pitch, and detector configuration are required)
