Radiation exposure in CT: the balance between benefits and risks
by Jean-François Paul, Le Plessis-Robinson, France
Introduction
The paper from Brenner and Hall, entitled “Computed tomography – an increasing
source of radiation exposure“ (1), is important because it recalls the potential risks due to
the use of CT; these risks increase exponentially with the increased use of CT. This paper has
already had a substantial impact on the medical community and beyond, which somehow makes this
paper dangerous: in the public domain, most people do not have sufficient knowledge to fully
understand the issues associated with radiation from CT.
